The R1S is Rivian's SUV: the same skateboard platform, battery and multi-motor drivetrain as the R1T, wrapped in a three-row family body with adaptive air suspension and a strong towing rating. Because it is used as a family vehicle it accumulates mileage quickly, and because it is heavy it does so at the expense of tyres and brakes. The electronics matter as much as the hardware — assistance sensors need calibrating after glass or bumper work, and control modules need correct software.
